Actually our neighbors, Maren and Björn with their children Tammen and Greta, wanted to go to the sea for a few days! The dutch atlantic coast would have been an option, or the Baltic Sea, which is exactly in the other direction from here!
Due to the forest fires in the southern countries, currently almost EVERYBODY from our region visits the Baltic Sea, so that the tourist areas there (as we have heard) are quite crowded … which does – neither the relaxation nor the nature – any good! So this option was already out!
And then (great-)grandpa Aron (who is also my and Lina‘s grandpa) went on vacation for a few days, too, so that his apartment in Braunschweig was free to use as a vacation home for the Matson family. How often do you have the opportunity to spend a week on vacation somewhere for free? Right?!
So the four of them changed their minds and instead of going to the sea, they visited the Braunschweig Lion and took day trips to the nearby Harz Mountains, where you can experience many things: the Hexentanzplatz in Thale, the Rosstrappe, the Bodetal, salt caves, the Brocken … just to name a few examples.
Accordingly, there was little swimming, but a lot of hiking. Which, however (as they told), was also very nice! Especially since the weather at the Baltic Sea was apparently not great at this time.
From one of their hikes they sent us pictures (on which amazingly many sea animals and sailors can be seen!) and I personally have to say that I would have loved to be there too! =)
In this sense I wish you all a nice (and not TOO rainy) rest of summer!
Yours Luise
