Aha, so Pip had heard that pixies had recently become the center of attention! While they had been gnomes in secret for years and decades, some of them were now apparently forcing their way into the public eye and leaving their mark COURAGEOUSLY!

Footprints in the chocolate spread, organized nonsense with toilet paper, VISIBLE doors where they received mail!

Not that Pip thought this was a bad thing! It certainly brought a lot of joy to many children (and adults!), and getting a thank you every now and then was certainly very nice too!

But she believed that this life in the limelight was nothing for her!
Well, admittedly, she was perhaps just a little afraid of stepping out of the shadows to be noticed, as she was maybe a shy little imp!

But then again, that wasn’t a bad thing, was it? No, it was actually a nice thing that there were different pixies! That they weren’t all the same! That’s what made the world so colorful and exciting!

And secretly, she could even be grateful to the spotlight gnomes, because the attention they got made her job in hiding easier and more enjoyable!

Something she really appreciated, as Pip had not just one, but TWO jobs!
So every morning she emerged from her cozy apartment under the old barn dresser to help out in a little shop right across the street, where there was plenty to do, especially during the Christmas season!

Polishing Christmas tree baubles, sweeping away pine needles, keeping the plump stone lady company, adjusting crystal glasses, rolling up gift ribbons…. .

All the little things that the ever-friendly sales clerk could hardly keep up with on her own!
Pip loved this job, ESPECIALLY at Christmas time, and was delighted with every customer who went home happy and with shining eyes.

But she was even happier when she finished work there and could turn her attention to her second job, which was actually more a matter of the heart: HER child, the girl Luise!

Every night she watched over her sleep, tousled her hair, sprinkled sleeping sand in her eyes, picked up her fallen stuffed animals, pressed sweet blanket folds into her rosy cheeks and sometimes even conjured up wonderfully musty mouth odor for her!

When Luise got up in the morning, completely messed up but healthy, to look in the mirror, she noticed Pip’s dedicated work every time, without knowing anything about her elf.

Or did she? Pip believed that she HAD to suspect something!
Because every year, at Christmas, Luise and her family put some of their feast on a small plate and shared their food!
They put it outside the door in the dark and Pip knew that this feast was meant for her!

And this was, year after year, enough thanks and enough attention to keep Pip happy!
