You’ve got a friend in me
The world is more beautiful with a friend! The little fairy Smee is quite sure of that! When you have someone who cares about you, who is there for you, listens to you or simply gives you a hug.
Only then do buds blossom into truly fragrant roses. When grasses sprout high and higher, life unfolds its full splendor.
This is not only the case in the Principality of Spring – her home – but all over the world. And so she makes a special effort to be there for others. She warms the sleeping seeds in her little hands, reads stories to the grubs in the soil (while gently admonishing them to always nibble just a little on roots), sends pollen on its way by blowing vigorously, and helps here and there where she can to transform the nature of her homeland into a radiant, glorious sea of colors and scents.
Natures little helpers
Of course, there are other helpers: worms and beetles, caterpillars and spiders and goblins and elves and snails and pixies. And some of them are just different from her: grumpy and grouchy and always in a bad mood. And these then help quite different plants to grow: thistles and nettles, thorny vines or poison ivy.
The beauty of diversity
And you know what? Smee has also brought forth such plants. Because no one can be friendly all the time. Or cheerful. Or happy. That’s just normal! And even though Smee was extremely shocked at herself when she saw her first stinky nettle, she had to realize that there is also a lot of good in supposedly nasty plants! Nettles, for example, are extremely healthy and provide a great home for many caterpillars before they turn into butterflies. Thorny vines protect roses or blackberries from too hungry mouths or too pick-willing hands. Even thistles can look beautiful when they bloom. And, and, and …
And so the little fairy has come to yet another conclusion: the more diverse the world, the more beautiful it is! And she finds that very reassuring! Because no matter how you are, or how you feel, or how you look: everyone and everything has a place in the big mess of life! And that is the most beautiful thing of all.
